2018 Famous Idaho Potato Bowl Set for December 21
BOISE, Idaho – The 22nd edition of the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl will kick off Friday, Dec. 21 at 2 p.m. MST/4 p.m. EST. The game will be held at Boise State University’s Albertsons Stadium and televised on ESPN.
The nation’s northern-most bowl game traditionally features a Mountain West (MW) vs. Mid-American Conference (MAC) matchup. This will mark the MW’s sixth straight appearance in the bowl’s history, while the MAC will look to secure a spot for the ninth time in 10 years.
The 22nd annual game has become synonymous with the start of winter break festivities, holding the same Friday slot as last season. Last year Wyoming cruised to a 37-14 victory over Central Michigan, led by a swarming defense, and Potato Bowl MVP and recently drafted to the Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen. The Cowboys got off to a fast start and never looked back, scoring a bowl record 21 points in the first quarter. Wyoming’s relentless pursuit on defense forced eight turnovers, also a bowl record, resulting in 23 points. Allen threw for three touchdowns on the day, totaling 154 yards.
“The matchups between Mountain West and MAC opponents are always a thrilling experience and last year was no exception,” said Kevin McDonald, Famous Idaho Potato Bowl Executive Director. We look forward to another exciting game being played prior to the holidays. It gives the bowl a great opportunity to create an outstanding game-day experience for our local and traveling fans.”
Friday’s game will be one of two matchups that afternoon, teaming up with the Bahamas Bowl which kicks off earlier in the day at 12:30 p.m. EST.
