The semifinals of the eighth annual Simplot Potato Sack Race will take place Thursday, Nov. 29 at 2 p.m., at Koelsch Elementary. More than 150 Koelsch Elementary School students, grades 3-5, will compete for a chance to qualify for the finals held on the blue turf of Albertsons Stadium during the 2018 Famous Idaho Potato Bowl.
The event will take place during a special assembly at the school, featuring photo/video and interview opportunities. Boise School District and Famous Idaho Potato Bowl personnel will be on hand.
Koelsch is one of eight Boise School District elementary schools participating in the Simplot Potato Sack Race, as approximately 500 students vie for 10 spots in the finals.
The Famous Idaho Potato Bowl donates game tickets to Boise School District’s Title I schools. Each potato sack race participant has the chance to receive these tickets and attend the bowl game, in addition to the opportunity to compete in the finals on the blue turf.
Tickets to the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl are currently on sale. This year’s matchup will be announced Sunday, Dec. 2. The game is set for Friday, Dec. 21, at 2 p.m. MT on ESPN.
